Djamila Ribeiro gives master class on epistemicide at the State University of Bahia
On Thursday 14th, Djamila Ribeiro gave a master class at the State University of Bahia (Uneb), inaugurating the institution’s postgraduate course in Human Rights.
“I can’t thank the Uneb community enough for the honorable reception,” said the philosopher, recalling that March 14 is full of meaning for Brazilians.
“Brazilian ancestry wanted March 14 to be an emblematic date for this country. Unfortunately, on this date we remember with revolt and sadness the brutal murder of Rio de Janeiro councilwoman Marielle Franco, but we also honor and take care of her seeds. On this date we also celebrate the legacy of black Brazilian literature, from the birth of Carolina Maria de Jesus and Abdias do Nascimento, filling the packed auditorium with an even more special atmosphere.”
Djamila’s lecture was on epistemicide as a violation of human rights. She thanked the entire Uneb community. “At the end, I was hugged by the audience. It was a beautiful evening and I can proudly say that I was a “Unebian” for one night. I hope to return soon. Thank you,” she said on her Instagram profile.
