Last Sunday, the 19th, Estação Primeira de Mangueira samba school went to Sapucaí with its parade in honor of the “Africas that Bahia Sings”. The samba-enredo that was immortalized in the voice of Margareth Menezes brought tributes to Iansã and to the knowledge of the terreiro peoples. In the allegories, car nº 2 passed through the sambodrome with Djamila featured as “The Queen of the African Embassy”.

It was the first time that Djamila paraded for Estação Primeira de Mangueira, although she has been Mangueirense since she was a child. In her own words, in the weekly column in Folha de São Paulo, Djamila said: “When I received this invitation, I almost died of a heart attack, such was the honor. Wherever he is, I can imagine my father, Joaquim, is still proud of it, he was a fanatical mangueirense, even though he was from Santos”.

The African Embassy car featured Djamila at the center of the kingdom, protected by two crocodiles and two guards mounted on zebras.
