Djamila Ribeiro Participates in the Guadalajara International Book Fair
Cartas para minha avó in Guadalajara
After joining the América Latina Viva panel last Thursday (5), alongside Venezuelan author Magela Baudoin and Colombian writer and journalist Santiago Wills, Djamila will present a reading of Cartas para minha avó to the audience during the fair’s closing this Saturday (7).
Connection with Mexico
On Instagram, Djamila Ribeiro celebrated her first participation in the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL), the largest in Latin America. The Brazilian philosopher shared her connection with Mexico.
“I have a relationship of exchange and affection with Mexico. Lugar de Fala (Where We Stand) is published in partnership with the Autonomous University of Mexico and the Tumbalacasa publishing house, and I have already held book launches in Mexico City,” she wrote.
The author recalled her first visit to the North American country in 2022, at the invitation of the Mexican government and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, as a speaker at UNESCO’s Mondiacult.
“During those days, we independently organized the only launch of the Spanish edition of Quem tem medo do Feminismo Negro? (Who’s Afraid of Black Feminism?), published by a Chilean publisher. We had exceptional support and managed to create a beautiful event,” she highlighted.
Last year, Djamila returned to the Mexican capital to deliver the opening lecture at the Global South Feminism Colloquium organized by UNAM.
“During this time, FIL always inhabited my imagination, and it took years of preparation to make this participation possible. Independent organization is challenging, demanding a lot of strategy, but once accomplished, it is an indescribable joy,” Djamila concluded.
