Released in Brazil by Ubu Editora, Ganhar o mundo: Sobre Os Legados Feministas (Feminism for the World – Pluto Press) is a powerful anthology that brings together some of the most resonant voices in contemporary feminist thought. The original edition, organized by Verónica Gago, was born out of a transnational collective effort that bridges theory and practice across various sites of struggle. Featuring authors from diverse backgrounds, the book invites readers to explore feminist experiences that span continents, historical contexts, and social realities.

Djamila Ribeiro also signs the Foreword to the Brazilian edition. “A book originally published in France, now arriving in Brazil through Ubu, bringing together important feminist voices from around the world. I am filled with joy to be part of this feminist pantheon, thinking through projects of women’s emancipation,” said the Brazilian philosopher in a video shared on Instagram.

In her chapter, “A maternidade pela ótica das Yabás” (“Motherhood through the Lens of the Yabás”, in a free translation), Djamila draws from African cosmologies and the symbolic power of female deities in Candomblé to reflect on motherhood, care, and resistance, reclaiming ancestral knowledge that defies colonial Western logics.

Ganhar o mundo brings to light insurgent stories that range from Francophone Africa in the 1950s to Black British communists in the 1970s; from Kurdish feminist struggles to voices from the October Revolution in Iraq; from feminist publishing in France to the Ni Una Menos movement in Latin America. Writers like Françoise Vergès, Lola Olufemi, Sayak Valencia, Zahra Ali, Rama Salla Dieng, and Silvia Federici form a constellation of voices writing from their crossroads — at the intersection of race, class, gender, and territory.

Djamila Ribeiro’s presence — a leading figure in Brazil’s Black feminist and antiracist movement — strengthens the book’s commitment to a plural, situated epistemology.

The book invites us to step beyond our own experiences and gain the world through feminist stories, learning from the legacy of women across all corners of the Earth.
