This Monday (29), Yale University Press posted on Instagram the cover of “Where We Stand,” the English edition of “Lugar de Fala,” which will hit bookstores in the United States next August.

“We are excited to reveal the cover for ‘Where We Stand’ by Djamila Ribeiro, one of the most influential leaders in the Afro-Brazilian women’s rights movement,” wrote the publisher on their official profile, highlighting this as the Brazilian philosopher’s debut in the American publishing market.

Translated by Padma Viswanathan, the English edition also includes a new introduction written by Djamila and a foreword by the celebrated Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

“It is an honor to be introduced to the English-speaking public by such an acclaimed and sensitive writer as Chimamanda. I also made sure to write a new introduction for this translation, available to the public starting in August,” Djamila celebrated.

Pre-order available

On the Yale University Press website, Djamila’s book can now be pre-ordered. The work is described by the publisher as the “bestseller that sparked a major Black feminist movement in Brazil.”

“In a society shaped by the legacies of enslavement, white supremacy, and sexism, who has the right to a voice? In this elegant essay, Djamila Ribeiro offers a compelling intervention into contemporary discussions of power and identity: the concept of ‘speaking place,'” highlights the text.
